The Portuguese Parliament has proposed a change to the citizenship law, focusing on birthright citizenship (Jus Soli). Under this new amendment, a child born in Portugal to a legal resident who has held residency for at least one year will be automatically granted Portuguese citizenship.
This change is significant for the Portuguese Golden Visa program. Although Golden Visa holders are only required to reside in Portugal for 7 days per year, their children born in Portugal could now automatically become EU citizens.
As of now, the Portuguese president has not signed the law, having returned it to Parliament for further revisions. Once the required amendments are completed, the law will be sent back to the President for final approval.
Reach Immigration has a proven track record in the Golden Visa program, and we are excited to see this promising change potentially come into effect.
