Amendments to the Portuguese Nationality Law have officially entered into force, allowing residents to start counting their five years towards Portuguese citizenship from the date of residency application rather than the approval date.
This decision follows the approval of changes to the nationality law by the Portuguese Parliament on January 5, 2024, which were published in the official gazette one month after the approval and presidential ratification.
