Recently, several reports have circulated across social media and certain news platforms, claiming that the European Union has suspended its visa waiver agreements with several countries.
However, the truth is entirely different; no visa waiver agreement has been suspended with any country so far.
What actually happened?
The European Union has approved proposals submitted last year by the European Commission to establish a mechanism for suspending visa waiver agreements in cases where violations are detected by the countries concerned.
This mechanism applies to 61 countries that currently benefit from visa-free access to the EU, including several Caribbean nations offering Citizenship by Investment (CBI) programs.
When can a visa waiver agreement be suspended?
For a visa waiver agreement to be suspended, the European Union must demonstrate the existence of concrete, documented violations by the country concerned.
This process relies on clear and official evidence, supported by reports submitted to EU institutions. The concerned country is always given the opportunity to respond and provide clarification before any final decision is made.
Caribbean countries’ commitment to international standards
We would like to reassure all current and prospective holders of Caribbean citizenship that these countries continuously enhance their due diligence procedures to ensure the integrity of all applicants’ files.
They also maintain full compliance with international agreements through ongoing communication with the European Union, ensuring continued cooperation and mutual trust between both sides.
Visa-free travel remains valid
Based on the above, we confirm that visa-free travel to EU countries remains valid for Caribbean passport holders.
These citizenship programs continue to be among the most valuable and reliable options for individuals seeking to enhance their global mobility and access international opportunities through Citizenship by Investment initiatives.
