Full European Entry and Exit (EES) System to be Implemented from April 10, 2026

The European Entry and Exit (EES) system will be fully implemented on April 10, 2026, following a phased rollout beginning in October 2025. It will replace traditional manual passport stamping, aiming to simplify border procedures and enhance security within the European Union.

The new system relies on recording travelers’ personal and biometric data, such as their name, fingerprints, facial image, and entry and exit dates and times. This allows for the accurate tracking of stay durations and the detection of overstays.

The system applies to all travelers, whether they require a visa or are exempt, such as passport holders from the United States, Canada, and Caribbean countries. However, it will not apply to European citizens or residents of Schengen countries.

The system will be implemented in 29 countries (25 EU member states and 4 non-Schengen countries: Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland), but not in Ireland or Cyprus.
