According to Cyprus Mail, Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides stated that the country will meet all the technical requirements for joining the Schengen Area by 2025, explaining that the political aspects of the matter have already been resolved.
Speaking at the “Beyond Sea and Sun” conference in Nicosia, organized by Hermes Airports, Christodoulides mentioned that joining the Schengen Area would bring significant benefits to Cyprus, especially in the fields of tourism and investment. He added that work is ongoing to complete the technical requirements under the supervision of a specialized team from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Schengen Area is one of the largest free movement zones in the world, covering an area of more than 4 million square kilometers, with a population of about 420 million. The area consists of 29 countries, allowing their citizens and residents to move freely between these nations and facilitating trade, which boosts economic and social integration among its members. This makes it a unique model of regional cooperation.
