Portugal Parliament Revising Birthright Citizenship Law

The Portuguese Parliament has tabled a change to the citizenship law focusing on birth right citizenship (Jus Soli), in which a child born to a legal resident of Portugal who has held residency for one year can obtain automatic citizenship.

This will be colossal for the Portuguese Golden Visa, as holders of this visa, although required to reside in Portugal for 7 days per year only, can now see their children born in Portugal automatically become EU citizens.

The Portuguese President is yet to sign off on the law, as he sent it back to Parliament for some changes. Once Parliament completes the amendments the law will be sent back to the President for final approval.

Reach Immigration has an excellent track record in the Golden Visa program, and we are excited to see this change hopefully come into play.
