The European Commission has decided to introduce a new system for citizens of countries outside the European Union or the Schengen Area, called the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS). Legal procedures for implementing this system began in 2016, and it is expected to be fully operational by November 2023.

The new system allows visitors from outside the European Union and Schengen Area to access these regions without a visa, based on their clean security record, as they are not considered a threat to the European Union’s security.

This system is an electronic application model presented by travellers (before travel) by filling out an online form that requires very basic information about the passport. Approval is granted within a few days.

These authorizations do not mean applying for a visa; rather, they aim to track and identify those coming to European Union countries. They will be valid for 3 years or until the passport expires, whichever comes first. The cost of the authorization is 7 euros for individuals aged 18-70, and it is free for those under 18 or over 70.

Reach Immigration believes that one of the key advantages of this system is ensuring safe travel within the European Union and providing easy entry for travellers to their European destinations. It is essentially a collection and update of data for individuals wishing to visit Schengen countries and the European Union without a visa.
