Portugal announced that, starting on July 1st 2021, it will no longer accept property acquisitions in Lisbon, Porto, or coastal areas as qualifying properties for its Golden Visa. This change has been debated for some while and the Portuguese government eventually decided to pass the law but only with a transition period set in place, hence the date of activation in July. This opens doors to investors to seek other interesting projects in Portugal, which could come with a higher value for money, and keeps the doors open to those looking to purchase in Lisbon, Porto, or the coast for another six months.
