The due diligence and pre-screening of applicants is a very important step of the Citizenship by Investment Program in Antigua and Barbuda, the government is constantly improving the procedures by which the applicants are vetted to accommodate the technological and political changes across the world, and to ensure that the Citizenship by Investment program is keeping up with transparency and security concerns.
First Stage of the due diligence process
After receiving applications from the authorized representatives, the Citizenship by Investment Unit begins the verification process of the submitted documents against the program’s laws and regulations, afterwards they forward these applications to the Regional Communication Center (JRCC) as well as the CARICOM Implementing Agency for Crime and Security (IMPACS) for international investigation and additional screening.
Second Stage of the due diligence process
After the receiving the investigation result from these agencies, the Citizenship by Investment Unit forwards the applications once again to other international third parties such as the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) for further investigation and vetting of applicants, and to ensure that they do not have any criminal history in any of the countries they previously resided in, the investigation in the 2nd stage focuses as well on money laundering matters, any fraudulent means by which applicants accumulated their wealth, and any concerns with reference to their reputation and history.
Once applicants are verified from these parties, the Citizenship by Investment Unit instructs applicants to proceed with their applications by providing them with the initial approval letter.
